Ikorodu Local Government Marks 66th Independence Anniversary With Fun Fair, Promotes Unity and Community Bonding ~Ajasa-Info


Ikorodu Local Government on Thursday, October 1, 2026, marked Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary with the Ikorodu Independence Fun Fair 2026, an event that brought residents together to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and stronger community bonds.

The celebration, held at the Ita-Elewa Mini-Stadium, Ikorodu, was organised by Ikorodu Local Government in conjunction with Eko Onpoint Entertainment and attracted residents, youths, families, community leaders and other stakeholders for an afternoon of entertainment, relaxation and community bonding.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Abdullateef Adedayo Ladega, congratulated residents on the occasion of Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary and wished them a happy celebration.

The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to doing more for the people of Ikorodu, highlighting ongoing efforts and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the community and enhancing the wellbeing of residents.

He urged residents to continue to live together in peace and harmony, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation in building a better community. He also appealed to residents to support and vote for APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Also speaking at the celebration, the Special Adviser on Youth Development, Hon. Macarthy Olatunji Alade, delivered a goodwill message and encouraged youths to take an active role in the democratic process. He urged eligible youths to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and appealed to residents to vote for APC candidates at the polls.

The fun fair featured a variety of entertainment and recreational activities, including music, bouncy castles and inflatable slides for children, as well as pool and table tennis for youths and adults.

Among those who attended were the wife of the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Khadijat Kareem-Ladega; APC Candidate LAHA, Hon. Toyin Gafar Bolowotan; Director General of iCare Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola; Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North, Mayor Ameen Apashile; the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government; councillors, community leaders, youths and other residents.

The Ikorodu Independence Fun Fair 2026 provided an avenue for residents to celebrate Nigeria’s independence while strengthening relationships among residents and promoting peaceful coexistence within the community.

The celebration ended with residents joining in the festivities and marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in the spirit of unity and togetherness.
