The Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), has reaffirmed the council’s commitment to environmental sustainability as he led the commemoration of the 2026 Lagos Tree Planting Day at the Council Secretariat.

The exercise highlighted the importance of tree planting in promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment while supporting the Lagos State Government’s vision of a greener future.

The tree planting exercise, coordinated by the Department of Environment, brought together members of the council’s executive, Heads of Departments, staff, and pupils from St. David Anglican Primary School, Oshoroko; Roman Catholic Mission Central Primary School, Lekki; and Mugraf Group of Schools (Primary and Secondary), all of whom participated in the environmental initiative.

Speaking during the event, Engr. Kasali described tree planting as an effective way of preserving the environment, improving air quality, combating the effects of climate change, and enhancing the quality of life in communities. He urged residents, particularly children and young people, to embrace tree planting as a civic responsibility that will benefit both present and future generations.

The Chairman also commended the Lagos State Government for sustaining the annual initiative, noting that environmental conservation requires collective commitment and continuous public participation. He stressed that every tree planted contributes to building a more resilient and environmentally friendly society.

The event concluded with the symbolic planting of trees by the Chairman, council officials, and participating pupils, reinforcing Lekki LCDA’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable development through collective action.
