The Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, has officially flagged off the construction of Owodunni Street in Orile-Ketu and Oluwalogbon Street in Ikosi-Ketu, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure across the council area.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremonies, Princess Bada described the projects as another fulfilment of her administration’s promises to improve the living conditions of residents through sustainable infrastructure development.

She explained that the 443.4-metre Owodunni Street and the 766.4-metre Oluwalogbon Street will be constructed with interlocking paving stones and complemented with the installation of solar-powered street lights to enhance security, improve accessibility, ease traffic movement, boost economic activities, and improve the overall environment of the communities.

The Mayoress commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for increasing allocations to local governments, noting that the development has significantly strengthened grassroots governance and enabled councils to execute more impactful projects. She said the regular execution of projects across Ikosi-Isheri LCDA is a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which she described as delivering tangible dividends to the grassroots and Nigerians at large.

Princess Bada also applauded the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for ensuring that local government allocations are not deducted, saying the Governor has never touched a dime from the council’s allocation. According to her, the collaboration between the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government has empowered local governments and LCDAs to undertake impactful projects that directly benefit residents.

Hon. Afolabi Kazeem, former Executive Secretary of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, recalled that Owodunni Street was last constructed over 20 years ago, describing its reconstruction as a long-awaited intervention. He highlighted the numerous developmental projects executed by Princess Samiat Bada across Ward E and Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, and urged residents to protect and maintain the roads and other public infrastructure for the benefit of all.

The Chairman of the Owodunni Street Community Development Association (CDA) expressed appreciation to the Mayoress for approving the reconstruction of the road with interlocking paving stones and solar-powered street lights, describing the project as a major intervention that will positively impact the community.

Also speaking, Chief Idris Junaid, the Asoju Oba of Ketu Land, commended the Mayoress for fulfilling her promise to reconstruct the road. He assured that the community would convene meetings to sensitise residents against dumping refuse on the road, stressing the need to preserve the infrastructure and maintain a clean environment.

At the flag-off of Oluwalogbon Street, the Baale of Asubiaro described the project as the fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration of the community. He noted that the reconstruction would greatly benefit motorists, residents, and businesses by improving accessibility and making movement within the area easier.

Princess Bada urged residents to take ownership of the projects by keeping drainage channels free from refuse, protecting the solar-powered street lights from vandalism, and safeguarding the infrastructure for the benefit of present and future generations.

She reaffirmed that her administration remains committed to delivering more road and infrastructure projects that will improve the quality of life of residents and sustain grassroots development across Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.
