Three academically outstanding young people from Ikorodu Federal Constituency are set to embark on different academic journeys in China after successfully securing Chinese Government international scholarships facilitated for them by Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, Member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives.

The scholars – Bello Saidat Oluwatobiloba, Faseyide Tolulope Temitayo and Nwobu Faith – are beneficiaries of an international scholarship opportunity open to qualified candidates globally and earned their places through academic merit and a competitive assessment process.

Their success followed a rigorous selection process coordinated by the educational support team of Jimi Benson’s iCare Foundation from the database of several applications for educational support submitted by constituents to the lawmaker’s constituency office.

The assessment considered the applicants’ academic records and performances in their respective immediate past institutions, as well as their results in screening organised by the Foundation’s education team. The process was designed to identify candidates with the academic capacity to thrive in an international learning environment.

The three successful candidates will be pursuing programmes at different institutions in China. Bello Saidat Oluwatobiloba is proceeding to Peking University for a PhD in National Development; Faseyide Tolulope Temitayo will study Nursing at Jinzhou Medical University, while Nwobu Faith will undertake a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at North Eastern University, Shenyang.

Their emergence adds another international dimension to the educational opportunities being facilitated by Rep. Benson for constituents, with Mr. Sadiq Jimoh, another beneficiary from Ikorodu Federal Constituency, already in China pursuing his Master’s degree through the same scholarship opportunity.

At a pre-departure engagement with the three scholars, Rep. Benson congratulated them on their success and charged them to understand the significance of the opportunity beyond the certificates they hope to earn.

The lawmaker told them that their academic records had already demonstrated their capabilities, while their performance during the Foundation’s screening further reinforced his confidence that they could compete successfully in a global academic environment.

He therefore urged them to remain disciplined and focused throughout their programmes, pursue excellent grades and take every legitimate opportunity available to them to broaden their knowledge and professional outlook.

Rep. Benson equally reminded them that they would be carrying the identity of Ikorodu and Nigeria with them and must therefore conduct themselves responsibly throughout their stay in China.

He encouraged them to remain good ambassadors of their constituency, respect the laws and regulations of their host country and return with knowledge and experience that could contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

The Director-General of Jimi Benson’s iCare Foundation and Executive Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mayor Deen Sanwoola, also charged the scholars to approach the journey with seriousness and a clear understanding of the responsibility that accompanies such an opportunity.

Mayor Sanwoola advised them to remain committed to their studies, maintain exemplary conduct and avoid distractions that could undermine their academic objectives.

He specifically encouraged them to emulate Mr. Sadiq Jimoh, who is already pursuing his master’s programme in China, noting that his progress and conduct provide a positive example of how beneficiaries of such opportunities should represent their community abroad.

According to him, the scholars should see their time in China as an opportunity to acquire not only academic qualifications but also international exposure, professional relationships and new perspectives that can become useful to their communities when they return.

The beneficiaries, on their part, expressed appreciation to Rep. Benson and the iCare Foundation for facilitating their access to the scholarship opportunity.

Bello Saidat Oluwatobiloba said the opportunity to pursue her doctoral studies at Peking University represents a significant milestone in her academic career, promising to remain dedicated to her research and make the most of the opportunity.

For Faseyide Tolulope Temitayo, the opportunity to study Nursing at Jinzhou Medical University opens a new chapter in her academic and professional journey. She expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to remain focused throughout the programme.

Nwobu Faith also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to pursue an MBA at North Eastern University, Shenyang, describing the scholarship as an important platform for advancing her academic and professional aspirations.

The three scholars pledged to maintain high standards of conduct, work diligently and justify the opportunity by pursuing academic excellence.

The development highlights a distinctive dimension of Rep. Benson’s constituency representation: connecting local talent with opportunities that transcend geographical boundaries.

Rather than limiting educational intervention to conventional scholarships or classroom infrastructure, the latest initiative demonstrates an effort to create pathways through which academically capable constituents can access international institutions and compete on a broader stage.

As Bello Saidat heads to Peking University, Tolulope begins her Nursing programme at Jinzhou Medical University and Faith prepares for her MBA at North Eastern University, Shenyang, Ikorodu will be gaining three more representatives on the international academic landscape.

Their journey therefore begins not simply with the prospect of earning degrees in China, but with the expectation that they will return as better equipped professionals and scholars whose knowledge, experience and achievements can ultimately contribute to the advancement of their community and country.
