2027: SWAGA Inaugurates 57 Coordinators to Drive Grassroots Mobilisation Across Lagos ~Ajasa-Info

The Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has intensified its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of 57 coordinators across Lagos State’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The inauguration, held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Eko FM Multipurpose Hall in Lagos, formed part of the activities of SWAGA 2.0, the group’s renewed mobilisation initiative aimed at strengthening its structures and deepening grassroots political engagement across Lagos State in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The event brought together members, coordinators and political stakeholders as the group moved to expand its grassroots network and sustain mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Chairman of SWAGA in Lagos, Hon. Monsuru Owolabi, urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to take the mobilisation drive to the grassroots and engage residents across their respective communities.

Owolabi, whose statement was delivered on his behalf by Hon. Lanre Odubote, charged the coordinators to reach residents in the various communities and mobilise support for President Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We should ensure that we go into the nooks and crannies of the communities and mobilise people to come and vote for Asiwaju and all candidates of APC,” Owolabi said.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Opeifa made the call while delivering a keynote address at the inauguration of coordinators covering Lagos’ 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.

He said the coordinators must leverage their knowledge of their communities to engage residents, understand their concerns and encourage them to participate in the electoral process.

According to Opeifa, electoral victories are determined by votes, stressing that mobilisation must begin well before election day.

“Nobody knows your area better than you. Nobody knows the people in your area better than you,” he said.

He urged the coordinators to shed any sense of entitlement and work directly with residents, noting that effective mobilisation requires engagement, persuasion and cooperation at the grassroots.

Opeifa also expressed concern about voter turnout in Lagos, saying the state’s large voter population had not translated sufficiently into votes. He challenged the coordinators to improve participation in their respective communities and ensure that registered voters were mobilised to exercise their franchise.

Reflecting on SWAGA’s previous mobilisation efforts, Opeifa said the group had played a role in building support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

He urged SWAGA 2.0 to build on that experience by establishing stronger structures, deepening community engagement and sustaining mobilisation across Lagos State.

Speaking on the objective of the initiative, the Lagos SWAGA Secretary, Hon. Hakeem Abiodun Muniru, said it was focused on “consolidating grassroots mobilisation and deepening political engagements” in support of what the group described as the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Muniru, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency II, told the newly inaugurated coordinators that their selection was based on their antecedents and charged them to deliver on the responsibilities entrusted to them.

“You were picked based on your antecedent, hence it becomes imperative for you to deliver,” Muniru said.

He added that the inauguration of the coordinators signalled the commencement of intensified grassroots mobilisation across Lagos State.

Also speaking, Aarebirin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Commissioner, Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, stressed the importance of delivering President Tinubu in the forthcoming election, citing what she described as his performance in office.

She said it was important for the coordinators to work towards ensuring victory for “our father” in the forthcoming election, noting that he had “performed wonderfully well” and had made the Southwest proud.

Olabanji-Oba urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to take their responsibilities seriously and intensify engagement across their respective communities as part of efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
