Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has celebrated elderly residents and retirees for their contributions to community development, distributing food and cash palliatives to over 200 beneficiaries at the maiden edition of the council’s Senior Citizens’ Appreciation Day.

The event, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, recognised senior citizens and retirees from communities across the LCDA, with Aroyewun reaffirming his administration’s commitment to their welfare and well-being.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Chairman described senior citizens as invaluable members of society whose sacrifices, experience and wisdom had contributed significantly to the growth and development of Igbogbo/Baiyeku.

He commended them for their years of dedicated service, noting that the community’s progress was built, in part, on the foundations laid by previous generations.

Aroyewun expressed delight at the enthusiasm of the beneficiaries, describing the initiative as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to society. He added that his administration would continue to introduce programmes aimed at improving residents’ living conditions and extending the benefits of governance to different segments of the population.

The Chairman also linked the initiative to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it reflected the need for welfare interventions that support Nigerians and improve their quality of life.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Aroyewun urged the senior citizens to sustain their political participation and mobilise support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Earlier, the Head of the Department of Agriculture, Mrs. Otun Anuoluwapo, explained that the programme was designed to recognise and appreciate elderly residents for their enduring contributions to the development of Igbogbo/Baiyeku.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Fayoyiwa, a retiree, expressed appreciation to the Chairman for initiating the programme.

Fayoyiwa, who disclosed that she had lived in the community for 40 years, described the initiative as unprecedented in her experience, commending the administration for recognising and celebrating senior citizens.

She noted that the gesture meant a great deal to the beneficiaries and thanked the Chairman and his team for the recognition and support.

The event was attended by members of the council’s management team, Supervisors, Special Advisers, retirees and senior citizens from various communities within the LCDA.

The programme featured the recognition of elderly residents and the distribution of food and cash palliatives to over 200 beneficiaries.

The initiative underscores the Aroyewun administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, appreciation of older residents and the promotion of community welfare across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
